SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor position is responsible for managing all production and facilities-related maintenance operations and supporting new business/product growth with process engineering and equipment selection. Works closely with manufacturing/production departments to ensure equipment is maintained in a manner that keeps unscheduled downtime to a minimum and meets stringent audit requirements. Solicits and reviews bids, and awards contract to outside service contractors and support staff. Maintains equipment preventative maintenance database in order to utilize TPM strategies. Works closely with the production teams, R&D and Technical to support improvement projects for safety, productivity and cost reductions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures timely and efficient preventive maintenance and repair of production and process equipment. Manages downtime to a minimum, supporting efforts to continually improve activities to reduce costs.
  • Preparation and tracking of annual maintenance budgets to ensure that department goals are met and financial targets are achieved.
  • Understands the criticality of plant and equipment to business performance and prioritizes and manages maintenance activities to deliver agreed levels of performance.
  • Plans, recruits, manages, trains, coaches and develops staff to deliver agreed plant availability at optimum cost
  • Manages the efficient procurement and availability of spares and consumables to deliver plant availability targets
  • Manages the balance between internal and external maintenance resources and manage external contractors effectively
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records to establish cost of ownership, to facilitate proactive maintenance and better procurement of new equipment
  • Organizes, monitors and controls compliance with Statutory and Company Safety, Health, Environmental, and Hygiene standards
  • Plans, prepares and manages the Maintenance budget to deliver the agreed levels of plant performance cost-effectively.
  • Is punctual, on time, and adheres to company attendance policies.
  • Performs job functions in adherence to safety instructions and rules.
  • Does not perform any job, duty, or function for which employee has not received training.
  • Follows job-specific instructions and rules.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYThe Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising and directing all the functions of 7 to 10 Maintenance Mechanics.
FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying products that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company and preventing its distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related preferred.
  • 6 years in food manufacturing with experience in batch and continuous manufacturing, site engineering and equipment maintenance.
  • 3 years experience in a supervisory/management position.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, cause finding and taking corrective actions to address system shutdowns in a high-pressure environment.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation troubleshooting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others
  • Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) with the ability to learn new applications
LANGUAGE SKILLS AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and effectively present information to peers, senior management, manufacturing employees, and customers. Fluent in English, Spanish a plus but not required. Ability to perform unit measures, conversion calculations and other mathematical calculations reasonably necessary to satisfactorily perform job duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will be required to work in an environment in which temperature ranges from sub-0° to 85°.
